One of my favorite GD tunes. Reminds me of my own cold night out on the road coming down from the Cascades through the Sierras. Sideways blowing snow and the whole bit. Hitchhiking was never an easy way to get from here to there, but songs like this one lighten the load.

Hhmm, maybe the Grateful Dead version of Layla, at least in message.

I picked up a scratched old copy of this album around 1980 at a church jumble sale when I was just a kid. I used to play it and do 'hippy dancing' with my sister around the living room.

Each Dead keyboardist was distinctly different and except for Vince, special to the Dead'sound at the time. To those old enough to remember Keith, his playing reflected a truly great time in the Dead's history,my favorite for the songs, the sound and the memories of life from that period.

The grateful dead’s version is so draggy u can grow a beard before it concludes. This version is way better in my opinion and that’s the only one that counts around here. lol.

Named for the 11/8 time signature. That they nailed a bizarre rhythm like that is a miracle. 55 years of listening, still amazing.

Well there's this Lord made a lady out of Adam's rib Next thing you know, you got women's lib Lovely to look upon, Heaven to touch It's a real shame that they got to cost so much Then there's Mama, don't send me down to rob that bank again I got a notion that you're leading me to sin Won't you relax, won't you lay way back Don't you bug your honey about no Cadillac It's only bucks, you don't need no jack So won't you please relax and lay way back My baby's loving gives me such a thrill It gives me inspiration making counterfeit bills Now some folks say the best things in life are free I sure don’t get no lovin' livin' honestly I know of no other GD song that is as antithetical to what they're all about or stand for than this one. It's just horribly written and that Adam's rib line is the most cringe-worthy in their catalog by a mile. They played it three times and no doubt Jerry or Phil put a stop to it. Also they tried to add time signature changes that did nothing for the song and imo it made it more clumsy. Also there's no discernible melody that's anywhere near strong... They're the champions of all music but they could still put out a bad song...and John Perry Barlow wrote this which kinda shocks me, I can imagine that Robert Hunter was shocked as well. The song implies that the dude will rob banks cuz his woman likes furs, then says that woman was made out of Adam's rib, then demeaned the women's liberation movement which in 1974 was in it's early stages!!!! and it finishes up making counterfeit bills and leads a life of crime so he can get laid...it's way way beyond "we can share the women we can share the wine"... but if you like it you like it.....to each his own
